IBAC: UPDATE February 2020

Keeping Business Flying Around The World For The Industry, By The Industry

mebaa news article image

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

Kurt Edwards

Please join me in welcoming Andreas “Andy” Meyer to IBAC’s Montreal office, where he will be responsible for IBAC’s liaison with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).  Andy brings years of experience working in the ICAO Secretariat, managing the Montreal office of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Associations, and flying in and instructing pilots on Gulfstream aircraft.  His business aviation and ICAO backgrounds will serve him well as Director for ICAO Liaison, ensuring that business aviation views are taken into account in ICAO’s global standards-setting work and advising me and the IBAC Governing Board.  We are glad to have him on board and are looking forward to his superb advocacy at ICAO and helpful support for the member associations around the world.

Later this month, IBAC will welcome the Planning and Operations Committee to Montreal.  The central topic for that meeting will be building out the Strategic Direction for the organization agreed by the Governing Board in October 2019.   We also look forward to having the member association officers engage their respective representatives to the ICAO Council and members of the Air Navigation Commission.  Direct, in-person engagement between in-country business aviation officials and their representatives at ICAO is an effective method of promoting the benefits and needs of our sector.  We are grateful to all the participants for coming to Montreal in the depths of winter and know that the discussions will be quite valuable.

Last, we point out below the initiative to promote sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland in January.  In addition to the below update, I’d like to bring your attention to some of the press reactions:

IBAC Will Be At The Following Upcoming Events:

NBAA Regional Forum March 5th San Jose - Booth #603
NBAA S&D 2020 March 10-13 Charlotte - Booth #1803

IS-BAO:

IS-BAH

Good start to 2020 from the IS-BAH some with great attendance and increased interest at the workshops conducted so far in Wilmington, NC, West Palm Beach, and Brussels.
EBAA AirOps sessions on ground handling proved to be popular with both ground handlers and aircraft operators.
Work continues at both ICAO and EASA regarding further enhancements in ground handling safety in our sector through proposed regulation and enhanced oversight.
Next workshops planned for San Jose ahead of the NBAA Regional event 3-4 March

SUSTAINABILITY

  • The Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Coalition assisted the World Economic Forum to secure a fuel supply for operators participating in this years' Davos event.
  • Media responses to the efforts of the Coalition in supporting the WEF event were very positive.
  • The SAF Coalition also introduced a new "Book and Claim" system for operators, which allows operators to pay for SAF, but which is used by another operator where fuel is available. This widens the access to fuel and solves logistical problems in distributing limited amounts of fuel to different continents.
  • Big thanks to Bruce Parry, the IBAC and EBAA director for environment, for all his work to make the event a success and to Juergen Wiese of EBAA and Doug Carr of NBAA for representing the Coalition for Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
